Founder and president, Ann G. Montgomery, began NMS in 1983 and has been serving not-for-profit organizations for over 20 years. Her clients include independent schools, environmental preserves, cultural institutions, colleges, research centers, and health organizations, located in over 15 states across the country. Ann applies her knowledge of the non-profit in the context of the unique mission, personality, and needs of each client.
Many of the clients that began with Ann in 1983 remain clients today. She is proud to be a part of the work that her clients accomplish.
At the University of Oregon, Ann earned a degree in music performance. She began in the development field by writing development software. In addition to her early role as a teacher, she brings experience as a non-profit volunteer and board member.
Candace A. Thierry, senior consultant, began at NMS in 2001 after 20 years in the advancement field. She has held positions at Massachusetts and Vermont colleges as director of alumni & development, dean of college relations and director of institutional advancement.
Candace holds a bachelor’s degree from Castleton State College and a master’s degree in educational administration and social policy from Harvard University. Since joining NMS she has worked with numerous clients on training staff, streamlining processes and revamping nonprofit reporting structures in the development office.
Gary Hall, senior consultant, joined NMS in 2010 with more than 35 years of NFP experience. He has held positions as program director, director of facilities and operations, director of development, and chief financial officer at youth services and educational organizations, most recently at a well-known independent school. He has extensive experience in annual, multi-year, and capital budgeting, accounting, tax-exempt financing, facilities management, and real estate.
Gary has 25 years practical experience with Blackbaud’s financial management applications including the Financial Edge. Financial systems, compliance, reporting, analysis, and planning are a focus. He specializes in formatting complex financial information into reader-friendly presentations for trustees and others charged with governance.
Originally a mid-westerner, Gary has lived in New England since completing his graduate studies at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Kathleen M. O’Sullivan brings extensive operations experience, having worked most recently in the development office at Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. A graduate of Providence College, her work experience began in nonprofit organizations in 1994 with CoffeeKids, an organization focusing on healthcare and micro-enterprises and with Project Bread-The Walk for Hunger, the oldest continual pledge walk in the country. Kathleen brings a special focus on the integration of fundraising data and accounting and other operations systems.
Dave Paek specializes in staff training, database management and custom reports for NMS. Before joining NMS, he worked as the Database Administrator for Citizen Schools supporting its nation-wide development staff in the donor database system (Raiser’s Edge) management and training. Prior to Citizen Schools, he served as the Development Coordinator at Tenacity in Boston where he oversaw its donor database system (Access and Raiser’s Edge) and supported the development operations.
Dave holds a B.A. in Economics from University of Massachusetts-Amherst and an M.A. in Nonprofit Management from Worcester State College. Dave is currently an acting board member of Young Nonprofit Professional Network (YNPN) helping to create a community for many nonprofit professionals of Boston.
Dave is also an avid hiker whose aspiration is to climb all of New England’s 4,000 footers with his chocolate lab Max. He enjoys kayaking and skiing. Dave is also the drummer for a local cover band.
